AMARÉ

(Due to festival submissions, the documentary 'AMARÉ' is not available for public screening at the moment. We look forward to sharing it with everyone soon!)

"AMARÉ" is a documentary about Maria, Pedro's mother, a six-year-old boy with four different diagnoses: lissencephaly, autism, DEAF 1 mutation, and epilepsy.

Maria narrates her challenging journey during pregnancy, birth, and raising Pedro. With the sensitivity of a mother, she demonstrates the significance of soap bubbles, threads on the sofa, vacuum cleaners, "tai" (one of the few words Pedro utters, referring to Compal juice), and a household that speaks of pain, guilt, but also joy, resilience, and an abundance of love.

The documentary relates to me personally. Epilepsy has always been a taboo in my childhood and continues to be so to this day. With a mother diagnosed with the condition, I set out to find answers about the challenges, relationships, emotions, and realities of living day by day with epilepsy through her history.

The film was developed for KINO-DOC, a center for documentary filmmaking in Lisbon, dedicated to technical and theoretical learning in audiovisual media. As the culmination of the course, KINO-DOC encourages students to produce and direct a documentary, enabling them to explore narratives and non-linear editing and creatively liberate the documentary process.
